1. What is it?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
VentureNet is an organization of entrepreneurs that work together
under contract to produce innovative products for the computer indus-
try. Formed in late 1991, it is open to anyone who is interested in
PC's and qualified to design, develop, and/or sell innovative PC pro-
ducts and services.
HighTest Lite and other HighTest products are the first result of
VentureNet. Several software engineers, a market researcher, a soft-
ware designer and publisher, and a product manager, all professionals
in their areas of expertise, worked together using telecomputing to
produce a series of products that meet specific market needs: Modern,
reliable, reasonably priced PC performance testing products for PC
buyers, dealers, manufacturers and end-users.
2. VentureNet's goal
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The primary purpose of VentureNet is to provide talented, ener-
getic, enthusiastic professionals in the computer industry with an
opportunity to work on projects that are interesting and that have a
reasonable chance of being successful. Whether a participant is work-
ing part-time or full-time on a VentureNet project, he or she has an
opportunity to take a reasonable risk for a possible substantial re-
turn-on-investment.
3. How it works
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We are on the lookout for people who want to be part of a start-
up, who want to take a chance on a well thought out business venture
in the PC industry without investing any large amounts of personal
money. To do this, the VentureNet coordinator solicits, reviews and
interviews interested "applicants" for projects that VentureNet consi-
ders to have a high potential for success.
If an applicant is thought to be a possible "candidate", he or
she is interviewed by telephone on several occasions, informed about
VentureNet projects being considered for the candidate, and then, if
accepted as a "participant", is sent a contract for review. If a
contract is completed, the candidate, now a participant, begins work
on the project(s) described in the contract.
4. What are the possible rewards?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The standard compensation for each person involved in the market
research and/or design and/or engineering and/or management and/or
promotion and/or sales of a product is a royalty paid on net sales of
each product that the participant works on. The royalty varies de-
pending upon the amount and type of work done.
In regard to the amount of royalty that a person can earn, it is
impossible to determine this for projects in general. Prior to con-
tract signing, interested candidates will be presented with informa-
tion about the market potential of each proposed product. With that
information, each candidate must decide for him or herself whether the
benefits outweigh the risks. (Most candidates think they do because
the only REAL risk is the loss of some time and perhaps a small amount
of money (for phone calls, etc.).
5. What are the current projects?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is very confidential. Trade secrets are only secrets as
long as they remain secrets. Each candidate will be informed, after
signing mutual non-disclosure agreements, in detail about one or more
of the current projects either being considered or actually in pro-
gress.
In general, projects include several innovative personal finan-
cial management products, advanced PC benchmarking and purchasing
assistance products, innovative personal information management pro-
ducts, and hypermedia products that are associated with several util-
ity products. These projects require a variety of engineering and
product design skills including C and C++ programming, Windows class
library programming, experience with user interface modeling and
design, knowledge of DOS and BIOS system-level services and programm-
ing, and experience in 3-D animation, experience with public relations
program, development of prospect lists and client tracking systems,
and much more.
6. What are the minimum qualifications?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That depends upon the specific type of work that each project
requires. What is most important is that each applicant possesses
professional competence and personal maturity. In some instances, an
excellent knowledge of Borland or Microsoft C is all that is required.
In others, a thorough understanding of existing products and the pro-
duct design process is essential. In yet another, knowledge of Bor-
land or Microsoft C++ is essential along with some knowledge of linked
lists and list processing.
7. Who should not apply?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Persons who should not apply for consideration by VentureNet are
those who have only moderate skills in a technical or product-market-
ing area. However, if you are a strong engineer, marketing, or sales
professional, then you should let us know of you interest so we can
talk.
Note that we definitely distinguish between marketing and sales,
both of which a business cannot do without. So that you understand
what we consider these terms to mean, "marketing" is the business
planning and coordination function of a business. "Sales" on the
other hand is the product promotion, prospecting and selling functions
of a business. Product managers are marketing staff; they decide what
will sell after discussing product concepts with many persons, design
and review design proposals, coordinate engineering and sales efforts,
develop business plans, etc. Sales staff research the best avenues
for product roll outs, prepare prospect lists and contact programs,
recommend promotion strategies, contact trade media to obtain reviews,
meet with prospective buyers, sell products, etc.
8. What to do next
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Give this a few days thought. Then, if you're still curious,
send us your resume. Please, do not call. We can't be inundated
with curiosity callers. We will respond to ALL applications. Please
remember that VentureNet is a collaborative effort that requires a
large variety of talented people to bring products to market, make
sales, pay royalties, and make a profit for participants who have
earned profit sharing (in addition to royalties).

9. A final comment
-----------------------------------------------------------------
As the world enters into further difficult economic times, we are
convinced that waiting for thousands of jobs to open up and invite
people into comfortable corporations is not going to happen. Instead
of waiting, we are acting. We believe that talented professionals can
take full advantage of advanced telecommunication technology, sound
business practices, and individual enthusiasm to build an
international network of people who, in their part-time or full-time,
can work on projects that succeed in the personal computer
marketplace. If you have that belief and want to take a venture, let
us know. After all, what do you REALLY have to loose?
10. Disclaimer
-----------------------------------------------------------------
We are legally required and want to tell all interested persons
that VenturNet can make no guarantee of any kind regarding the amount
of compensation that participants might receive if and when a product
that any participant has worked on is introduced into the personal
computer marketplace. All participants are required to make their own
independent, informed judgments about the viability of their
participation in VentureNet projects and programs. VentureNet will
provide as much information as it deems necessary and appropriate for
each candidate to make such decisions. All candidates are encouraged
to ask VentureNet for as much information as they need to make
informed decisions regarding VentureNet participation.
